Waffle Church Story
From Laura Courtright Burns Director of Family Ministries and Campus Minister at UWSP
It’s berry season! One of the joys of summer in Central Wisconsin is what seems to be an endless supply of fresh local berries of one sort or another. On an early Sunday morning a few weeks ago, I prepared bowls of strawberries in the quiet kitchen of the Plover church building. As I cleaned and cut the berries to share at the first Waffle Church, my thoughts and prayers were on the new worship service and the people who would gather for worship that morning. Excitement came as the waffle cooks arrived. Excitement and joy as I saw the coffee being poured and butter placed in dishes and people happily greeting each other as they gathered for worship. Waffle Church was happening! Worship designed for people of all ages with music; music that is taught, not read from a hymnal or screen. It was happening with Scripture and a message for all ages, and opportunities for sharing and praise and creativity and prayer. It was happening around God’s Open Table where ALL are welcome!
