2017-04 A Message from Pastor Howard Hintzman

“Tis the season” again when I get to encourage people to attend all of the Holy Week services to be reminded of the complete story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. To not be a part of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday is to not know the entire story of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ. It is like the parts of Jesus life we don’t like or want to see, we just edit out. The story of Jesus’ life is not one of convenience and comfort. Hanging on a cross has its inconvenient features.
To live an effective and healthy life, it is necessary for us to address the dark times of life boldly and with faith. I was in a conversation just this week with a colleague who was telling how after she had served a church with a lot of dysfunctional behaviors in it, when she took a new appointment, she decided to face issues around conflict and in appropriate behavior or attitudes directly. She doesn’t let these kind of issues affect her and her ministry in a negative way.
It is in the facing up to the last week of Jesus’ life that we come to a relationship with God that is filled with our appreciation and love. Holy Week is when we get to experience all of Jesus’ life, the good and the bad, the dark and the light, the sinister and the holy. As we face all the things of Holy Week, we find ourselves transformed by such a great act of love in Jesus Christ. Till next month….h
